Trouble configuring SCSI mirror on IBM xSeries 226 server

The funtime ServerGuide ran through like it was doing all the good, but after taking out the CDs, it failed to boot. Turns out this feature has to be enabled on the Adaptec SCSI controller.

  • Boot the server and choose Ctrl+A for SCSISelect Utility
  • Select the appropriate controller (this one is on B)
  • There were only two options on this screen. Select the first one.
  • Arrow down to HostRAID and press Enter to select Enabled
  • Press Escape to return. You should have three choices now.
  • Choose Configure/View HostRAID Settings
  • C to create
  • RAID-1 is mirroring
  • Use arrows and spacebar to select drives
  • Enter twice to continue
  • Name your new array something catchy :)
  • Answer yes to the rest of the prompts
Now the ServerGuide should work fine. Support recommends version 7.3, but said 7.2.04 should work fine.

Be sure to skip hard drive/RAID configuration (cause you just did it by hand) and you're set!

BTW, these new servers make you wait for the entire RAID array to be initialized (20 - 40 minutes) before continuing.
