I had heard of Skype from some guys at the office. They were using it to speak with each other while working on some software modifications. One even used it to save money on his long distance bill while phoning customers for tech support.
A friend of mine was complaining about his cell phone bill so I sent him this link:
After signing up, he called me excited about the service. He said it is only 2 cents a minute to call normal phone numbers (local or long distance).
I didn't think much more about it until he mentioned trying to use a bluetooth headset to interface with his Dell Axim. Since I was evaluating an Axim myself, I started researching accessories for Skype. Turns out, there is a USB adapter to allow using a cordless home phone with this service. The ones I found sell for about $35 plus shipping, but would be a great deal for someone wanting to utilize this cheap phone service with their home phone.
I'm going to try to hook up my little PBX to Skype and a normal phone line and see if I can provision it to use Skype for long distance calls and faxing.
Bottom line, if you're looking for cheap long distance phone service, Skype is a great deal.
