In a
previous article, I mentioned a few steps to allow multiple users share one profile or to enable swapping profiles between users. This process can save nearly all desktop settings and possibly several hours per PC.
There is a much simpler procedure when it comes to switching out the profiles between an old and new user of a PC. Renaming a user will retain all the previous user's settings and permissions while allowing the new user his or her own personalized user information. This can be done in Active Directory if you're on a Windows Domain, or in the case of a standalone PC.
Renaming does not modify the profile folder location. This I only mention in the event you need to dig around in the file system.
The simple answer: rename the user, change the password and possibly change the username or login ID.
