Outlook Express SMTP Authentication Instructions

  • Open Outlook Express
  • Select Tools from the menu bar.
  • Click Accounts
  • Select the Mail tab (#1 photo below)
  • Click the email account name (#2)
  • Click the Properties button (#3)
  • Select the Servers tab
  • Check the box at the bottom titled My Server Requires Authentication
  • Click the Settings button
  • Confirm Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected
  • Click OK to return to account properties
  • Click OK to return to internet accounts
  • Click Close to return back to Outlook Express

If you are unable to use SMTP authentication, try entering the outgoing mail server of your active internet provider (ISP). Dial-up accounts should use the mail server for the dial-up service. Other types of service should specify the nearest upstream mail server (like with hotel networks).
