Nice laptop. Horrible, horrible situation...
System would consistently boot to the repair area of Windows 7. Unfortunately, the repair failed every time and there was no option for running a factory restore.
No product key sticker on unit. Two years after purchase, but one year out of warranty. No available recovery CD/DVD's.
Switch the SATA mode operation in bios to ATA from AHCI in order to get BartPE to boot. Run chkdsk on drive to confirm it is fine. Create Windows 7 repair disks (both 32 & 64 bit). All repair attempts fail.
Download Windows 7 Professional DVD image. Locate instructions for creating Win7 bootable flash drive. Prepare flash drive. Boot to flash drive & install Windows 7. Fail to open any recovery options from Dell recovery partition.
Locate instructions for re-imaging system drive using "imagex" on Microsoft "WAIK" software package. Download ISO and mount using freeware utility. Install WAIK & copy specified folders to same flash drive. Boot to BartPE and try imaging with "imagex" utility; failed. Manually delete all files from target drive. Successfully restore files with "imagex" utility.
Change SATA mode operation from ATA to AHCI after receiving stop 0x7B errors. Boot normally.
