Using Windows 7 Home as a file server is fine as long as you remember to increase the following two values in the registry:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size
The first should be increased to
1 and the other to
3.
You may also notice the following information listed in the System Event log:
Source: srv
Event ID: 2017
Level: Error
The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the server reached the configured limit for nonpaged pool allocations.
