Internet Keyword - adware removal
InetSvc.exe kept crashing when rebooting. I discovered that the process would restart automatically after killing it off. If you create a subdirectory under "Internet Keyword" folder in Program Files, then move all files into that subfolder, the program can't restart. Kill off the InetSvc.exe and InetMgr.exe processes and move the files again. Then clean up your "Run" keys in the registry. ~! i win ~!

TV Media - adware removal
i used a program called "move on boot" to remove the files .. then cleaned them from "Run Once" keys in the registry.
if you try to remove them from the registry before removing the files, the entries show up again within a few seconds. also, if you kill the processes, they start up automatically again.
These guys didn't have great success

VX2 Finder
A fellow technician just told me about something called "VX2 Finder" that is quite handy for ridding a system of some trash that causes the
hosts file to be automatically updated with local host addresses. Even if you delete these entries, they come back almost immediately.

An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

Windows 2000 ...
Microsoft KB # 318584 says to back up your registry and then do something like this ...
back up and then delete these two registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
Remove TCP/IP from each one of your network configurations and reboot. Reinstall TCP/IP and test

Windows XP ... won't allow you to remove and reinstall TCP/IP .. but Microsoft document 299357 might help you reset the IP information in the registry
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
=== === === === === === ===
if this doesn't work, try LSP fix or SpyBot
