What a great place to share :) Here you will find flashes of brilliance caught for all the world to enjoy. .. Actually, these are brief articles describing how I fixed a problem. Every day, I find information online that helps me solve a mystery. So this is me giving back to the community. Thanks for stopping by.. and don't forget to tell your friends!

User Profiles & Employee turnover

In a previous article, I mentioned a few steps to allow multiple users share one profile or to enable swapping profiles between users. This process can save nearly all desktop settings and possibly several hours per PC.

There is a much simpler procedure when it comes to switching out the profiles between an old and new user of a PC. Renaming a user will retain all the previous user's settings and permissions while allowing the new user his or her own personalized user information. This can be done in Active Directory if you're on a Windows Domain, or in the case of a standalone PC.

Renaming does not modify the profile folder location. This I only mention in the event you need to dig around in the file system.

The simple answer: rename the user, change the password and possibly change the username or login ID.

ADP Printer substitution driver

ADP LaserStation 1520 doesn't seem to have a driver but is strikingly similar to a Lexmark Optra S 1625. The driver available on Lexmark's website works just fine for this particular printer.

.. same driver appears to work fine with ADP LaserStation 1920

Finally, some real cash!

After signing up and playing around online for a little while this afternoon, my account already shows $8.50 !!
This is highly exciting to me since everything else I've signed up for over the last few months pays only a few cents here and there (or worthless points for annoying surveys that I never seem to meet the qualifications).

Simply sign up and you'll begin receiving offers that lead to cash rewards. Most of the ones I've seen today are $1.00 and 50 cents each.

500cents-500dollars.org

Lucky lucky lucky - I stumbled across this tip by reviewing my referral logs. Apparently, someone bounced onto my BlogCharm blog after visiting LaLa Land. Since I'm a curious little monkey, I snooped on through and found gold!

Isn't it crazy that I spend all this time looking for great ways to make money online and the best one finds me almost completely by accident!

Make money while you sleep!

I just signed up for somthing called Gomez PEER and am currently waiting for approval before my computer earns money "while I sleep" as they say. Hopefully, this will pan out better than the survey scams, but since I didn't find anything bad on Google about this program (and since it's free!!), I'm giving it a shot.

Below are a few banners if you would like to try it with me. If it doesn't work out, I'll remove it from here (or give a scathing follow-up!).

After registering, I noticed a request for Most Wanted participants with dial up service in these locations:

Korea
Mexico
Netherlands
Singapore
United Kingdom

Solution: Network attached scanning!

I reconfigured a Brother MFC7820N for a customer last Friday and was quite impressed. The software installation is normal (and doesn't try to consume the computer forever like HP MFC installations). The network scanning software configuration is clean and easy to modify after installation.

Before loading the software, I manually set a static IP address on the printer. The drivers work on Windows NT 4.0 Server, but only if you choose to avoid using USB attached to the server :)

Finally, there is a quality network scanning solution at an affordable price!
